Margale Pet Resort

Amazing place with amazing people! From my very first phone call to the day I picked up my dogs after boarding, everyone was incredibly kind, helpful, and understanding. My dogs aren’t the easiest — they can be reactive around other dogs — but instead of judging or turning us away like many other places did, the team here listened and worked with me to find the best way to accommodate their needs. During their stay, they even helped train and gently introduce my dogs to others to improve their socialization, and they kept me updated on their progress throughout. When I picked them up, I could tell how happy and well cared for they were — and to my surprise, they were noticeably calmer and better behaved, thanks to the extra time and care the staff gave them (without me even asking!). I couldn’t be more grateful for the love and effort they put into caring for my dogs. If I could give them 10 stars, I absolutely would!

I have had many dogs both in California and out of state and have boarded them in several boarding facilities. This is absolutely the best place for your dog. The level of care and individual attention is above and beyond anywhere else l have experienced with my dogs. The facility is clean with lots of opportunity for dogs to have play time with other dogs as well as supervised individual outside time.There are professional trainers and training available for your puppy or dog if you would like that option. The entire staff is exceptional in their communication and willingness to help in any way they can. All in all for anyone who really cares about the well being of their dog while away, this is the best place for them as well as ones own comfort level leaving them at a boarding facility. Therefore, I can not recommend Margale enough !!!

Allan and Shelley are so wonderful! I knew of their organization through the dog training community and asked them to care for my reactive Belgian Malinois for an extended period of time mid-late 2025. I was so concerned to be separated from her given her temperament but when I finally returned to bring her home I was shocked by what I found. Not only was she healthy, stable and happy as a clam, but she had also formed an adorable relationship with some of the kennel technicians. I could immediately tell based on how my dog reacted to them that she had been loved the whole time. Thank you to Belen, Katie and the rest of the staff for what you did for my family! Their boarding program is small enough that each boarding dog is able to get that personal hands on experience compared to the massive volume operations that are popular in San Diego. My favorite part is that they have attendants working around the clock, so there is a human present in the event of a late night emergency.

We recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome our beloved dog, Buster—a black and tan hound born in 2021. After being in four different homes and going through multiple traumatic experiences with unleashed dogs, Buster needed a safe, stable environment and more specialized care than we could give. He also has food sensitivities and does best on a healthier, less processed diet. We’ve used Margale Pet Resort before for boarding and always had an amazing experience. Their team is incredibly professional, loving, and attentive. So when we needed help with Buster, we turned to them without hesitation—and they went above and beyond. Margale took him in, committed to getting him healthy, and will eventually find him a forever home where he can truly thrive. Margale is more than just a pet resort—they’re true animal advocates. They care deeply about every dog they work with and treat them like family. We’re so grateful for the compassion, expertise, and love they’ve shown Buster. If you’re looking for a place that treats your dog with the same care you would, Margale is the place to go. We can’t recommend them highly enough.

Alan and his staff are amazing. They have such an awesome facility and the trainers are so knowledgeable. We took one of our pups here for training and some info on showing and were very pleased. This place has the most awesome Retrievers, trainers, boarding set up and professionals in the industry. Thanks Alan and we will be back.

I took my golden retriever puppy to the Margale Pet Resort for 11 days during the Christmas holiday. After reading the reviews I was excited for her to be with other Goldens, get play and social time, and be well taken care of. When I called the resort during her stay, I was told they were so booked and busy they had no time to socialize my dog and she was only let out of her kennel for potty breaks and walks. Worried about my dog, my husband flew home early from our trip to see family and picked her up. The front desk couldn’t find her food (she had 4 days left of food), and told us she must have eaten it all. He found the food bag for the staff. He was printed the incorrect receipt twice, and we never received any sort of report card or summary of her stay. She came home with Bordetella and has been coughing all night. I believe this kennel has the right intentions, but obviously was not prepared to properly care for the volume of dogs they had during the holidays. I’m weary of the cleanliness of the facilities, and will not be taking my dog back.

We have been using MPR for a couple of years now and are very happy. Most recently, my dog was there for 2 weeks. I can tell he is well taken care of.
