A Cut Above Pet Stylists

Groomer accidentally cut my cat and called me to let me know that my cat needed to go to vet asap. My cat needed stitches. To their credit, they immediately took my cat to a vet, paid for it and called me later to check on him. Still, inexcusable and sloppy (don’t blame cat for moving!). I will never return.

I loved this place and used them for about 10 years for my Shih Tzu. Sadly, after the owner died recently, they appear to have shut down both Manhattan locations.

Been going here for 17 years and couldn’t imagine a better place to take our dog. The staff are so amazing. When I walked in the other day the staff recognized my dog and immediately she ran to them. Between my dog’s comfort to the great haircut and what more can you ask for??

I asked the groomers at A Cut Above to make my Goldendoodle's hair one quarter inch shorter and they shaved him without informing me. He was not at all matted. The staff seemed overwhelmed and dismissive when I was clearly shocked when picking him up. My dog is now quite stressed and uncomfortable due to his haircut. Do not go here!

If you have a labordoodle and want your pets coat destroyed, cut improperly do it doesn’t grow back correctly by all means bring your loved one here… if you want your happy dog can’t wait to leave this place by all means bring your loved one here.. if you want to get overcharged for inferior care and grooming by all means bring your loved one here .. need I say more.. the worst.

My cat is quite difficult to deal with but they did a great job with him, will definitely be coming back.

TLDR do NOT bring your cat in if you care about their safety. Cat was placed in multiple dangerous situations and abused, with groomers lying to my face about what I saw. A few weeks ago, I brought my cat into the salon for a nail trim (a service offered to cats before 3 pm on any day the salon is open and bus the paid in cash). The receptionist, Raffy, was clearly not interested in providing this service. First he told me that they don't service cats, then he said they do service cats but the person who cuts their nails "doesn't work on the weekends anymore", then he said since I didn't have an appointment, I would need to leave my cat "with them" and come back "in a couple hours" (which is against policy, as cats are treated on a walk in basis and as soon as you get there) and finally called the off site manager (I assume?) named Catrice. Catrice told him that they do service cats and he needed to provide this service, and then told me that any tech can cut a cat's nails and he was wrong that any specific person didn't work that day. Raffy took my cat in her carrier into the back (as they've done before) and I continued to speak to Catrice. I watched as Raffy and another tech (didn't see his name) then turned the carrier ON ITS SIDE to dump my cat onto the table in a room full of unrestrained and unleashed dogs who were barking at her and surrounding the table. Raffy held her down and forward by her scruff and the other technician bent her arms such that her front paws were pointing down her body (basically next to her tail). I was very upset and knocked on the window, where Raffy came out and said this was "normal" and to "calm down." Through the window, I saw the other tech pick up my fully grown, adult cat by the scruff of her neck and hang her in the air by the neck. I told Catrice everything that was happening as I saw it. You should NEVER lift an adult cat in the air by the scruff of their neck, as this can cause injuries since they weigh too much. Kittens might be held by the scruff by a mother cat, but a four year old, ten pound cat should not be held in the air by the NECK in a room full of barking dogs. Raffy refused to go back in and intervene and Catrice didn't say anything either. I watched the tech drag my cat back into the carrier by the scruff of her neck forward into a carrier (which did NOT work). Finally, they brought my cat back out. I told the other tech I was upset and he mistreated my cat. First he said "well that's how mother cats carry their kittens" and I said you are a grown man and not a cat. And she's not a kitten. Then he said "well I never did that. I didn't do that" but I saw him do it. I asked Catrice if she was still on the line and on speakerphone, she confirmed. At that point, he got very nervous and said "well then maybe I did do it but that's just "our policy" and I've never caused any injuries when I've done it before." I asked Catrice if it was their policy and she didn't give me a clear answer. Raffy continued to laugh at me for being upset that he was mistreating and abusing a clearly terrified cat placed in a very dangerous situation. I am still very upset. My cat has been very nervous since then. She needs to take daily medication and used to be a pretty good sport (it involves being held down), but now she runs and hides and fights back. This was a very dangerous situation to put a cat into a room of unleashed dogs with unknown temperaments, and I am also worried for the other dogs that are in this room. I would not recommend this business to any pet owner under any circumstances and am very worried for the animals that are under their care (cats AND dogs).
